Schematic Design for Phase 1 Projects
May 5, 2017
A presentation was made at Agnes L. Smith Elementary School to update the Site Committee, whose purpose it is to represent the greater campus community, on the status of the project implementation process. To date, Huntington Beach City School District and BCA Architects (bond program manager) have identified prioritization for the projects that will be undertaken at Agnes L. Smith Elementary School, a 21st Century demonstration classroom has been designed in collaboration with OnPoint and schematic design for the Phase 1 projects commenced. In early May, BCA Architects met with the Site Committee to present the scopes and initial designs for the Phase 1 projects and collect feedback from the participants. This information will be used to ratify the design options which will be presented to the Board for final approval of the schematic design options on May 16, 2017. Phase 1 projects are a combination of tasks that fulfill the district-wide priority 1 and 2 needs and are scheduled to be completed between 2017 and 2020. Generally, this includes developing 21st Century demonstration classrooms and life/safety improvements.

21st Century Education Demonstration Classrooms
March 28, 2017
Huntington Beach City School District is committed to being a model for 21st Century education. As such, classrooms will be transformed across the District into innovative student-centered spaces that support collaboration and flexibility. A classroom has been designated at Agnes L. Smith Elementary School, and at every other campus district-wide, to be renovated and serve as a learning lab. OnPoint and BCA Architects have engaged each of the demonstration classroom teachers to guide them through the design and functional concepts that will be integrated into their space. Once the classrooms are completed in Fall 2017, OnPoint will administer professional development related to the new technologies and equipment that will be installed to support and administer curriculum. The demonstration classrooms will be used to elicit and gather feedback from the educators, which will serve as the framework to transform all of the classrooms across the District into innovative 21st Century learning environments by the end of the second series of bond sales.
