Schematic Design for Phase 1 Projects
May 4, 2017

A presentation was made at Huntington Seacliff Elementary School to update the Site Committee, whose purpose it is to represent the greater campus community, on the status of the project implementation process. To date, Huntington Beach City School District and BCA Architects (bond program manager) have identified prioritization for the projects that will be undertaken at Huntington Seacliff Elementary School, a 21st Century demonstration classroom has been designed in collaboration with OnPoint and schematic design for the Phase 1 projects commenced.

In early May, BCA Architects met with the Site Committee to present the scopes and initial designs for the Phase 1 projects and collect feedback from the participants. This information will be used to ratify the design options which will be presented to the Board for final approval of the schematic design options on May 16, 2017. Phase 1 projects are a combination of tasks that fulfill the district-wide priority 1 and 2 needs and are scheduled to be completed between 2017 and 2020. Generally, this includes developing 21st Century demonstration classrooms and life/safety improvements.

21st Century Education Demonstration Classrooms
March 31, 2017
Huntington Beach City School District is committed to being a model for 21st Century education. As such, classrooms will be transformed across the District into innovative student-centered spaces that support collaboration and flexibility. Classroom 21 (5th Grade) has been designated at Huntington Seacliff Elementary School, and at every other campus district-wide, to be renovated and serve as a learning lab. OnPoint and BCA Architects have engaged each of the demonstration classroom teachers to guide them through the design and functional concepts that will be integrated into their space. Once the classrooms are completed in Fall 2017, OnPoint will administer professional development related to the new technologies and equipment that will be installed to support and administer curriculum. The demonstration classrooms will be used to elicit and gather feedback from the educators, which will serve as the framework to transform all of the classrooms across the District into innovative 21st Century learning environments by the end of the second series of bond sales.

Facilities Needs Assessments
October 10, 2016
BCA Architects conducted a thorough review of the existing condition of Huntington Seacliff Elementary School and provided recommendations for facilities improvements (both renovation and new construction) to bring the campus in alignment with 21st Century learning and teaching methodologies. This information was used as a basis to develop the project recommendations, phasing, priorities and construction cost estimates for the Measure Q Bond Program. A presentation covering the background/purpose of the needs assessment, an overview of district-wide priorities, preliminary goals and objectives, existing campus conditions and model classrooms for 21 Century education was shared with attendees at a meeting at Huntington Seacliff Elementary School in October 2016.
